A bit of history
SecureIt Tactical have been around for a good while, but there’s still a chance you haven’t heard of them. The reason is simple, they’ve been working for the US Army, and have been developing their platform and products for military purposes. Well, the Guard 6 is one of the results of those efforts. The platform has two priorities – straight-line access, and organizational awareness, and it hits the nail on the head with both.
What do you need?
Now, the Guard 6 isn’t a standalone product. Unfortunately, if you want your weapons to be safely stored and out of reach unless you explicitly need them, you’ll also need a safe. Of course, this is still something you should definitely get, because you don’t want your guns laying around in your safe, do you?
To add to this, if you have a secure room and don’t really need a dedicated safe for the Guard 6, you can go ahead and mount it on the wall. You can even elevate the base, but you’ll need something to put under it because the three base units can’t be wall-mounted – that’s just for the upper section.
What is the Guard 6?
The Guard 6 can be explained in a simple way – it’s a storage solution for six rifles. But it’s not that simple. The upper part is basically a straight saddle that you can adjust vertically. The adjustment allows you to support long guns at the same level, whether you want to go for the rail, barrel, or mag well.
Then, you have the three modular grids. This allows you to use adjustable upper saddles, and each of the grids is 6” by 12”, and you can connect it horizontally or vertically. This is what lets you set things up just right for your guns, and is why this modular conversion kit is so good – it doesn’t limit you in terms of which guns you use. It makes use of SecureIt’s CradleGrid system and comes with bungees that keep your guns snugly fit against the grid.
Last but not least, you have the base units. There are three in total, and they have a tiered channel to support the stock of just about any log gun. The bases are 6” by 10”, and each base can have two guns. And while the bases themselves are three separate pieces, they have an interlocking mechanism so you can connect them all together for a sturdier, more rigid configuration.
When you take everything into consideration, you’re looking at a quick and easy way to convert a regular safe to a purpose-built gun storage solution.
Is it complicated to install?
This is one of the best things about the Guard 6 – it’s incredibly simple to install. Unless you’re looking at an incredibly complicated safe or cabinet, installation won’t take more than 15 minutes before you have a ready-to-use product.
As we mentioned, you can choose between putting it on a cabinet, or installing it on the wall. And we’ll say this again if installing the Guard 6 on the wall (which is a slightly more complicated and less safe solution), you want to make sure the base is either on the ground or on a sturdy support.
How good is it?
Quite honestly, it’s pretty good. True, it is made to serve a specific set of users who have a pretty specific requirement, but if you’re one of those users, the Guard 6 is one of the best kits you can get.
First things first, we already mentioned that setting it up is a piece of cake and takes little to no time. You also get the ability to readjust the cradles in just a minute or two if you want to store a different gun to the one that was already there because the CradleGrid system is really that simple.
There are some complaints because of the fact that the Guard 6 is made of plastic, and we can see where some of the users are coming from. When you’re storing guns, you want high-quality materials, and plastic usually isn’t the first thing that springs to mind. However, the plastic that SecureIt have went for is pretty stiff and seems durable, all while keeping the weight of the entire kit pretty low. It’s made to hold weapons, after all, so you don’t have to worry about durability that much.
Wrapping things up – should you go for it?
At the end of the day, SecureIt Tactical’s Guard 6 kit is a pretty niche product. It’s made to fit one specific group of people who already have a good safe, and want to convert it to a secure storage unit for their weapons.
And if you’re one of those people, we’re happy to say that it’s one of the best retrofit kits you can get. It’s made of materials that are actually durable, and it comes with one of the most well thought out systems for mounting and storing your guns out there. Add to this the ease of installation and modularity that basically lets you store any rifle or long gun on the Guard 6, and you can immediately see why it’s a favorite of any responsible gun owner.
