Simplisafe vs Abode: Features

New Users

SimpliSafe offers a variety of options for those who are unsure of what they want from their home security system. They have generous return and refund policies. SimpliSafe has flexible monitoring plans, they do not deduct any cancellation fees if you change your mind within 30 days. They do not deduct any cancellation fees even if you cancel after submitting an installation request (without even testing their product). The price points can also be customized so that everyone in the family will have access to affordable equipment at all times without breaking budget constraints. (1)

While Abode is a difficult choice if you are a new user & especially it’s not easy for people without tech experience & knowledge of products like these! In case you don’t like it, its cancellation fee makes it difficult. So you will have to pay even if you don’t want to use it.

Winner: SimpliSafe comes out as a clear winner IF you are a new user & don’t have experience with tech-related products.

Free Plan

You can get all of the protection features that both brands have to offer without paying for a monthly plan. But you won’t be able to set up automation or record video clips with either piece of equipment if using them as an alarm system alone! But Abode will at least let users arm and disarm their systems through its app, whereas SimpliSafe only offers cheaper sirens in comparison – not really what most people are looking for.

Both provide very little in their free option, but even then, Abode is a winner as it provides few basic features in it a free option.

Mobile App Access

With Abode, you can remotely control your system and get push notifications. But with SimpliSafe’s Interactive Plan subscription (a $14 per month addition), customers can gain access to these capabilities.

Winner: Abode

Home Automation Capabilities

With more integrations than SimpliSafe, Abode is capable of working with Alexa and Google. It also supports Z-Wave chipsets for those who want to connect their home life remotely or use automation technology like scene changes in Sonos speakers and Zigbee. While SimpliSafe integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. (2)

Winner: Abode

Tools Prices

If you’re looking to save some money, SimpliSafe’s base package is a better deal. It offers a more affordable base package with the same equipment as Abode. And if you are an Interactive monitoring subscriber, get 10% off on your deals.

Winner: SimpliSafe wins as they provide tools at lower rates.

Return & Refund

If you are a SimpliSafe user, then you can take advantage of a 60-day trial period, and in case you’re not happy with the services, you can return SimpliSafe within that 60-day window. They even pay your return shipping cost. On the contrary, Abode offers a 30-day refund policy with no return shipping cost. However, both of the companies refund only if you purchased directly from them.

Winner: Even, in this case, SimpliSafe is a winner with a longer trial period plus paying shipping expenses.

SimpliSafe vs Abode Pricing

There are five security packages SimpliSafe offers.

  • The Haven
  • The Knox
  • The Hearth
  • The Essentials
  • The Foundation

Let’s talk about their two most in-demand packages, the basic & the heaven.

The basic package is Foundation, while The Haven is the most comprehensive security package for many of the users as it covers all the security aspects. If you find it difficult to select any one of their five packages, you may purchase their hardware separately. This hardware includes extra motion sensors, glass break sensors, an indoor security camera, namely SimpliCam, and smart locks.

While Abode offers three different security kits.

  1. Smart Security Kit,
  2. Iota Security Kit,
  3. Build-Your-Own Kit.

Most users prefer to buy the Build-Your-Own kit. Users take an online questionnaire from Abode’s website & get the recommendations according to the shape and size of their homes and also based on their preferences. Besides these security packages, additional tools can also be purchased from their website, including; smoke detectors, water detectors, sensors, smart home devices, cameras, etc.

However, the thing that is worth mentioning here is prices, SimpliSafe does not just have budget-friendly packages, but their accessories and tools are much cheaper than Abode tools. Some of the tools are almost half the price of Abode tools, e.g. the unit price of the Entry sensor of SimpliSafe is available $14.99 while the Abode Entry sensor unit price is $27.99. Similarly, the unit price of SimpliSafe’s water sensor is $19.99, whereas the Abode’s water sensor unit price is $54.99.

Winner: SimpliSafe wins if you are looking for an economical security solution.

Abode and SimpliSafe offer three types of security cameras: two suited for outdoor use and one appropriate for use as a video doorbell.

When our in-house experts compared SimpliSafe and Abode cameras, they found both companies’ home cameras didn’t measure up. Abode offers indoor cameras with standard features, but for the price, you could get a camera that works better and looks more professional. And when our testing team evaluated SimpliCam (SimpliSafe camera), they weren’t impressed. It’s an indoor camera with standard features, but it feels cheap and the camera quality isn’t up to our standards.

Winner: We think both are tied level regarding cameras.

When it comes to compatibility, no security system including SimpliSafe can beat Abode. With having an Abode system, users can connect 160 devices, such as Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and many other third-party brands that operate Zigbee or Z-Wave technology.

To put it in simple words, by integrating your smart door locks and smoke alarms with Abode, you can create automation that unlocks your doors for firefighters when the fire alarm system is activated.

Winner: Abode

Mobile App Ratings

SimpliSafe is a very clear winner, according to reviews on the Apple App Store and the Google Play store. SimpliSafe earned 4.4 stars on Google Play and 4.8 stars on the Apple App Store. Abode earned 3.3 stars on Google Play and 2.5 stars on the Apple App Store.

Winner: SimpliSafe wins by a good margin as per user ratings.

Simplisafe vs Abode: Standout Features

Abode’s Pro plan costs $5 less per month compared to SimpliSafe’s most expensive offering. However, the two security systems seem highly similar in features, so Abodes wins this round because of lower prices and more services offered in their cheaper package!

Winner: Abodes wins as they provide cheaper rates with almost the same or maybe little better features.

Trial Period

SimpliSafe provides its users with a 60-day trial period, whereas Abode has a 30-day trial period.

Winner: SimpliSafe wins with a longer trial period.

Cancellation Fees

Want to take a break from pro-monitoring services? No problem! It’s free with SimpliSafe. On the other hand, Abode charges you $35 if your annual plan is canceled, and they won’t give back any of that money even though it’s not what customers want or need.

Winner: SimpliSafe wins in this case.

Who’s the real winner?

SimpliSafe came in first overall with its more affordable equipment, more flexible contracts, and more customer-friendly policies. Abode, however, still made a mark as a good choice for homeowners looking for a few extra perks—like a free plan with more function than SimpliSafe’s. (3)

Simplisafe vs Abode: How It Works

SimpliSafe Working Method

SimpliSafe offers two ways of monitoring professional monitoring and self-monitoring.

Professional monitoring: If an event triggers the SimpliSafe system’s siren (such as a break-in, a door being opened, or glass being shattered), a homeowner will hear the siren and be contacted by the SimpliSafe professional monitoring center via a phone call. If the homeowner confirms that the siren being triggered was not an accident, SimpliSafe’s team will contact the emergency response team.

Self-monitoring: A SimpliSafe customer who purchases the self-monitoring plan must contact emergency services on their own if an alarm is triggered. But homeowners have to purchase a siren to sound in the house in case of emergency.

Abodes Working Method

Abode’s security system offers two monitoring options–self-monitoring and professional monitoring. Those who pay for professional monitoring have a team monitoring their system 24/7. When your system is armed, the professional monitor team will receive alerts any time one of the wireless sensors is triggered by events like a door being opened, a water leak, motion in your home, or smoke. Upon receiving an alert from one of the wireless sensors, the professional team will contact you via a phone call and then forward it to the appropriate emergency team.

The company’s mobile application will send an alert to homeowners who have signed up for self-monitoring and will allow them to report a dangerous situation themselves.

Wrapping Up

After considering the brand’s reputation, customer service policies, and product quality, we evaluate how much value they provide to customers. And in most of the parameters, we see that SimpliSafe knocked out Abode.

Though both of these security systems are reliable & leading in the industry. One more thing we must add regarding security systems is that it also depends on user requirements and conditions. It is not necessary that if one specific thing is suitable for one use will be suitable even for its neighbor. So the ultimate choice will be yours.

We hope that this read will make your choice of a better security system for your home. Thank You!
